Monash University, Indonesia Supports Capacity Building for Regional Government Leaders

Jakarta – On Friday, 5 December 2024, Monash University, Indonesia and the Agency of Domestic Policy Strategy of the Ministry of Home Affairs ("BSKDN Kemendagri") made a mutual commitment to support capacity building for the regional government leaders. Taken place at the National Workshop: Linearity of The Central and Regional Policies to Succeed the Asta Cita Missions, a Letter of Intent was signed by Dr. Ivan Butar, Vice President of Education at Monash University, Indonesia, and Dr. Yusharto Huntoyungo, Head of BSKDN Kemendagri.

Professor Bambang Brodjonegoro, President of Indonesia’s Advisor on Economics, and Professor Matthew Nicholson, President of Monash University, Indonesia, attended and witnessed the Letter of Intent signing. The event invited around 700 regional government leaders and industry partners of BSKDN Kemendagri, including Monash University, Indonesia.

As an agency responsible for ensuring the regional government’s performance, Tomy Bawulang, the Secretary of BSKDN Kemendagri, expressed the urgency to elevate the Regional Government Performance Index from time to time, especially with the change of administrations both in the Presidential and Regional levels. By this collaboration, he hoped that Monash University, Indonesia could support capacity building in terms of leadership, management, and financial capacity for the regional civil servants.

The event commenced with a bilateral Letter of Intent signed between Monash University, Indonesia and BSKDN Kemendagri. It was then followed by panel discussions about the Government’s roadmap for domestic policy in adherence to Asta Cita missions, delivered by high ranks of Government officials including but not limited to Professor Bambang Brodjonegoro and Echelon I from various ministries.

The event concluded with a business pitching-styled session to foster linkages between participants from local government and industry. In this session, Ibu Tantia Dian, COO and Vice President (Operations & Enterprise) of Monash University, Indonesia, delivered a presentation on Monash University, Indonesia's initiatives and impacts on a regional scale. Tantia emphasized the fundamentals of Monash University in Indonesia, that is to contribute to the regional development of Indonesia. She explained that within three years of Monash University’s operation in Indonesia, we have done more than 40 research projects on a regional scale, ranging from Aceh to Maluku. Tantia urges the importance of local-context and industry-relevant research, to resolve issues on the local level.
