Jakarta – Indonesia faces a significant challenge in enhancing global competitiveness, with only 0.45% of its working-age population holding a master’s or doctoral degree. Monash University, Indonesia continues to enhance access to world-class higher education through its Global Mobility Program, This initiative consists of three core components:

  1. Australia Exchange Program: Students studying in Australia for up to six months while maintaining tuition fees in accordance with Monash University, Indonesia’s policies.
  2. Australia Leadership Program: Designed to prepare students for international careers.
  3. Monash Innovation Guarantee Postgraduate Program: Offers an adaptable learning pathway aligned with industry requirements.

Monash University, Indonesia is also proactively addressing Indonesia’s growing demand for sustainability experts. This commitment is reflected in the planned launch of the Master of Sustainability program in 2026, equipping professionals with the skills needed for a greener future.

In 2024, Monash University, Indonesia forged strategic partnerships with ten top universities in Indonesia, including Universitas Bunda Mulia, Universitas Ciputra Surabaya, Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya, Universitas Kristen Maranatha, Universitas Kristen Petra, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, Universitas Pelita Harapan, Universitas Pembangunan Jaya, and Universitas Pradita. These collaborations are designed to elevate higher education quality through student exchanges, collaborative research, and doctoral scholarships for faculty members.

Monash is deepening its industry engagement with the launch of a Double Degree Program in collaboration with PT PLN (Persero), combining a Master of Business Innovation at Monash University, Indonesia with a Master of Engineering at Monash’s main campus in Australia. This initiative plays a crucial role in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition and capacity development. Additionally, Monash is cultivating digital transformation leaders through the Executive Education Program with the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO), a six-month intensive training program attended by 50 professionals from government and industry.

Monash University, Indonesia plays an active role in research that drives sustainable development and impactful policies. A key effort in this area is the Banten Mosaic Initiative, a partnership with Bappeda Banten, universities, and local NGOs to deliver data-based insights for strategic planning in Banten Province.

Monash University, Indonesia is conducting a research and grant program funded by the UK-based Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC). This initiative supports developing countries in designing policies that emphasize biodiversity conservation, restoration, and sustainable management. In Indonesia, it has received 43% of the total Rp14 billion budget, or over Rp6 billion. The research will focus on the relationship between ecosystem services, food security, and poverty alleviation within the Food Estate policy.

Monash further reinforces its global leadership by hosting two international conferences: the Sustainable Development for Thriving Communities Conference 2024 and the Conference of the Journal of Information Systems. In addition, Monash analyzed Indonesia’s 2024 Presidential Election through the Monash Centre for Data and Democracy, with its insights broadcast by major international media, including ABC Australia, BBC, CNN, and Channel News Asia.

Additionally, Monash University, Indonesia organized EduVate 2024, in collaboration with Monash University, Malaysia and LLDIKTI Region IV West Java-Banten. This event served as a platform for educators and policymakers to explore transformative trends in higher education, particularly those related to Generative AI.

Monash has also achieved a significant milestone by enrolling its first doctoral candidates in Public Policy, Public Health, Data Science, Urban Design, and Business. This step reinforces Monash’s commitment to developing world-class local academics and promoting impactful research.
