Eastern Indonesia Bootcamp in Manado 2026
Ms. Murice Mauboy from Yayasan Tunas Aksara was selected to participate in the bootcamp 2026. Here is her story:
A Learning Space That Strengthens: My Experience at the Eastern Indonesia Researcher Bootcamp by Ms Maurice Mauboy

"I am very grateful that I was selected to participate in the Eastern Indonesia Researcher Bootcamp in Manado, 1-3 February 2026. For me, this was not just a learning space to know more about research, but also an opportunity to help build my dream of becoming a researcher in Eastern Indonesia, especially in the field of education—something that can bring meaningful change and contribute to improvements in this area.
In that space, I met fellow researchers who shared similar concerns: how the voices from the East are not only heard but also considered—becoming policies that truly match the needs of our region. The discussions were not merely technical conversations about methodology or writing an abstract; they were deeper conversations that sharpened my way of thinking, broadened my perspective, and strengthened my courage to conduct research myself.
I learned that strong research grows from real problems in the field, from social contexts understood with empathy, and from genuine collaboration. This bootcamp also reminded me that capacity is not only about individual ability, but about networks that support one another. I feel truly grateful to have the chance to learn together with people who already have research experience according to their expertise.
One particularly interesting aspect was the presence of continuous mentoring sessions, to support and strengthen us so that what we learned does not stop there—but can be applied immediately. This includes developing a real abstract for my own research plan, which will also be part of the requirements to take part in IRSA, an international conference that will be held in Bandar Lampung in July 2026."
My bootcamp story by Yakob Osingmahi from GARAMIN NTT
Another story comes from Mr. Yakob Osingmahi from GARAMIN NTT, who participated in the same Bootcamp in Manado.

"I feel very happy and grateful to have taken part in this research bootcamp, as I was given the space and opportunity to participate as a person with a disability. This experience is very meaningful to me—not only as a learning process, but also as a space where I felt accepted, valued, and included equally.
During the bootcamp, I met new friends, fellow participants, and inspiring mentors who have extensive experience and strong academic publications in research. As a participant with a disability, I was not alone. I was joined by two other participants—Kak Yohana, who has a visual impairment, and Kak Elo, who has a physical disability. We share a common interest, particularly in inclusive education in Indonesia.
I also had the opportunity to engage with non-disabled researchers from various parts of Eastern Indonesia who have rich research experience. They were very open, supportive, and willing to share their knowledge and experiences, which greatly supported my learning and personal development. We exchanged stories about challenges in our respective regions and shared ideas and innovations.
Over the three days, I learned a great deal from participants with diverse research backgrounds, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. I also gained valuable insights into field challenges, such as unexpected variables during research and strategies to address them.
As a person with a disability with limited research experience, this bootcamp has been incredibly helpful in improving my understanding of how to plan, conduct, and anticipate the dynamics that may arise throughout the research process."

Designing process to review our pocket book with community representations from women, older people and people with disabilities including people with physical disabilities, deaf and blind communities in Kupang
Congratulations, and thank you to Dr. Miya Irawati and Dr. Welmince Djulete for leading the development of this pocket book and for all the MoFCREC team and partners who have contributed to the book through your valuable inputs. The final draft is now being shared with our team and partners for feedback. It will be available in both Indonesian and English, with the review process taking place throughout April 2026.
We are now moving into the next stage—community consultation. The final version will be printed and distributed during upcoming workshops in Kupang and Makassar.
As part of this process, we co-designed the pocket book together with representatives from our participant groups, including women, older persons, and people with disabilities (both physical and deaf communities). We are also awaiting feedback from the Blind Association in Kupang, whose insights as users of the pocket book will be invaluable.
This has been an exciting and meaningful journey. Many community members shared that this is the first time they have been directly involved in shaping a research or program output as reviewers. In recognition of their contributions, We have committed to listing their names as community reviewers in the pocket book, especially considering the time and care they invested—around four hours each.
The process has been eye-opening and deeply inspiring. For example, we learned that members of the deaf community may have a more limited vocabulary range, and some everyday words can be difficult to understand or easily misunderstood. Words that seem simple to non-deaf individuals can, in fact, be quite complex. This experience has strengthened our understanding of how to communicate in more inclusive and accessible ways. Below are some moments from our co-design process. As you’ll see, participants were incredibly engaged and eager to learn and contribute. Congratulations to everyone involved!

We are proud to announce that our first BMKG weather education video on agriculture has been successfully completed. This nine-minute video provides accessible and practical information on weather forecasting and its relevance for agricultural activities.
The video is scheduled to be officially launched in June 2026 during upcoming workshops in Kupang and Makassar. Prior to the launch, the final version will be shared with our team and partners for review and feedback.
This achievement reflects the strong collaboration between MoFCREC, BMKG, and the videography team, who have worked together through a series of online and in-person meetings to ensure high-quality production.

Planning and production meetings with BMKG and the videographer team, conducted both offline and online to support the development of high-quality educational videos
Meeting with Tanahindie Team for MoFCREC Art Exhibition Planning in Makassar
During our recent trip at the end of March 2026, we met with our creative partners from Tanahindie to advance the planning of the upcoming MoFCREC art exhibition in Makassar. The discussion focused on aligning our research outputs with the exhibition’s theme, narrative, and materials to ensure a cohesive and impactful presentation.

Dr. Welmince Djulete with fellow focal points of the Eastern Indonesia Researcher Network from nine provinces, alongside representatives from KONEKSI and BAKTI during the Makassar event
Dr. Welmince Djulete was invited by KONEKSI–BAKTI to participate in the Leadership Training for the Eastern Indonesia Research Network, held in Makassar from 29 March to 1 April 2026. Through this engagement, MoFCREC is contributing to the development of the Eastern Indonesia Researcher Network, which brings together representatives from nine provinces across the region.
This initiative aims to foster a more equitable research ecosystem in Eastern Indonesia by creating opportunities for researchers—particularly early-career scholars—to learn, collaborate, and incubate ideas that address pressing regional challenges. Ultimately, the network seeks to support meaningful contributions to the sustainable development of Eastern Indonesia.
