ECRU Translational Research Division

About us

ECRU Translational Research Division (ECRU TRD), under the direction of Associate Professor Anthony Dear, is the development arm of ECRU conducting a number of translational research projects in multiple disciplines. ECRU TRD maintains its laboratories at the Eastern Health Clinical School, Arnold Street, Box Hill, Melbourne.

Currently ECRU TRD is involved in the evaluation of novel and existing agents used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes with a view to determining their potential for vascular protection; a priority research area given the significant incidence of vascular disease experienced in the type 2 diabetic patient population. ECRU TRD has also established, with its collaborators, several in vivo systems for assessment of novel and existing agents in the setting of vascular disease and is involved in the development of novel medical devices for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease states.

ECRU TRD is supported by Monash University, individual principal investigators from ECRU’s clinical operations, has strong links with the pharmaceutical industry, and has successfully sought funding from the NH&MRC, philanthropic and private sectors in order to further its research activities. ECRU TRD also seeks to provide an environment for ongoing academic endeavors, including postgraduate studies, with biotechnology research projects available for prospective BMedSc (Hons) and PhD students.

Associate Professor Dear is involved in several scientific collaborations with national and international research groups, is co-investigator in numerous International clinical trials and is also a member of the Australian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ASTH) and the Australian Vascular Biology Society (AVBS).
