1. Apply for a Study Permit
If you are planning to study at Monash University, Indonesia, obtaining a Study Permit (Izin Belajar/IB) is the first step in securing your study visa and legally staying in Indonesia for the duration of your academic program. Below is a comprehensive guide to help you through the process.
The Study Permit is an official authorization from the Indonesian government, issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, allowing international students to study in Indonesia. Monash University, Indonesia’s International office, will assist you in applying for the Study Permit on your behalf.
Processing Time
The process of obtaining the Study Permit typically takes 5 to 7 working days. To ensure a smooth process, you should submit all required documents at least 12 weeks before your expected arrival date in Indonesia.
Required Documents for Study Permit Application
- Letter of Acceptance
A formal letter issued by Monash University, Indonesia, confirming your admission. (See the sample)
- Copy of Your Passport (Personal Details Page)
A clear color scan of the page containing your personal information (name, nationality, date of birth, passport number). The passport must be valid for at least 6 months).
- Photograph
- Passport-sized photo with formal attire and a neutral expression.
- The photo size for an Indonesia visa should be 3.5cm x 4.5cm.
- Solid white background with no patterns or shadows.
- Face should cover 70-80% of the photo height.

- Scan/Electronic Copy of Academic Transcript
A digital copy of your most recent academic transcript.
- Scan/Electronic Copy of Graduation Certificate (if applying for a full degree program)
Proof that you have completed prior studies (e.g., undergraduate or postgraduate).
- Health Certificate
A certificate signed by a medical doctor and issued by a certified hospital, confirming you are fit to study in Indonesia. This certificate is valid for only 8 weeks from the date of issuance. Alternatively, you may submit a Health Statement Form if unable to provide this certificate.
- Signed Financial Statement Form
A document demonstrating that you have sufficient financial resources to cover your living expenses and studies in Indonesia. (we will provide the template)
Official Bank Statement or Savings Account Records with min. balance of USD 2,000 or equivalent.
- Signed Non-Political and Non-Working Statement Form
A declaration stating that you will not engage in political activities or employment during your studies in Indonesia. (we will provide the template)
- Guarantee Letter
From a guarantor, which is an Indonesian citizen or the educational institution where foreigners carry out education. Monash University, Indonesia will provide the Guarantee Letter for you.

2. Apply for Indonesia Visa for Study Purposes
Once you received the Unconditional LoA and Study Permit from Monash University, Indonesia, the next step is applying for an Indonesia Visa. You can visit this official visa portal at https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/.
