Facing the Challenges of Energy Transition, PLN and Monash University, Indonesia Collaborate to Strengthen Employee Capacity

PT PLN (Persero), in conjunction with Monash University, Indonesia, signed a memorandum of understanding that marks a significant milestone in enhancing the capacity of PLN employees to expedite the energy transition on Tuesday, August 22, at the PLN Pendopo in Jakarta.

Present at the signing of the memorandum of understanding were PLN's Director of Legal and Management Human Capital, Yusuf Didi Setiarto, and Monash University Indonesia's President, Professor Andrew MacIntyre.

The capacity-building program related to the energy transition at PLN encompasses various initiatives, including special payment schemes for formal education, joint research tailored to PLN's needs, and the implementation of training programs as per PLN's requirements. These activities comprise short courses, seminars, conferences, workshops, benchmarks, formal education, and joint research.

Yusuf Didi Setiarto, PLN's Director of Legal and Management Human Capital, expressed that this is a pivotal moment for Human Capital at PLN to become a driving force for transformation. According to him, the energy transition is one of the challenges PLN faces, with Indonesia committed to the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

To prepare for this new era, Didi acknowledged the need to consolidate multidisciplinary human capital and experts in energy transition at PLN. "We are asking divisions and sub-holdings which areas need development. From there, we prioritize what needs to be explored," he said.

In this regard, PLN has identified a particular focus on formal education to better equip itself for the energy transition. Didi hopes that the memorandum of understanding with Monash University, Indonesia will provide additional insights to PLN, especially in the development of human resources for tackling the energy transition.

"We want this relationship to be more than just formal. We want this collaboration to be even stronger so that both PLN and Monash receive mutual value," he emphasized.

Professor Andrew MacIntyre, President of Monash University, Indonesia, expressed full support for this collaborative spirit. He emphasized their commitment to creating sustainable positive change in the energy and education sectors.

"We believe that this collaboration has the potential to create a positive and lasting impact in the energy and education sectors. We are committed to making this collaboration a continuous and beneficial framework," Andrew said.

With this development, PLN and Monash University, Indonesia affirm their commitment to creating sustained positive change for the Indonesian community and the energy industry.
