BSD City, Tangerang – Building on the success of its 2024 debut, Monash University, Indonesia held EduVate 2025, an annual gathering of educators, students, policymakers, and industry leaders to share ideas and advance innovation in higher education. Held on 20 August 2025, this year's event explored the transformative role of generative AI and inclusive learning ecosystems. It drew hundreds of participants and featured 45 speakers representing more than 40 institutions from across the Asia-Pacific.
"Generative AI is reshaping industries with remarkable speed. For universities, the challenge is not just to follow, but to lead—preparing graduates with the right skills, strong ethics, and the agility to thrive in the future. With EduVate 2025, we are bringing this vital conversation to the stage, making sure innovation is always aligned with inclusivity and workforce needs," said Professor Matthew Nicholson, Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, Indonesia.
This view is consistent with findings from global management consultancy McKinsey, which uncovered a paradox in the business world. While 92 percent of companies worldwide plan to increase AI investment in the next three years, only 1 percent have fully integrated it into daily operations. The main obstacle is a talent gap, with 46 percent of leaders citing limited workforce skills as the biggest challenge to AI adoption.
Commenting on the findings, Dr. Lukman, B.Eng., M.Hum., Head of the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region IV, underlined the need to prioritize human capital development. "AI integration in education is not just about technology; it is about equipping talent to lead meaningful transformation. EduVate connects academia with industry to make sure graduates are prepared for the future workplace," he said.

Keynote speech by Gita Wirjawan on rethinking Access, Innovation, and Impact in Higher Education
Gita Wirjawan, a renowned Indonesian educator and entrepreneur, echoed this view, saying, "Indonesia today needs more graduates in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to support the development of artificial intelligence. Looking at the bigger picture, the most fundamental investment our nation must make is to foster a generation that embraces innovation through accessible education for all. To achieve this, we need to cultivate educators, both teachers and lecturers, who are willing to adapt, innovate, and inspire students to combine ambition with imagination."
