Yogyakarta – Monash University, Indonesia, and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), one of Indonesia's top-ranked and public universities, are significantly expanding their partnership, moving from a formal agreement to the creation of concrete academic and research programs. This strategic collaboration aims to advance Indonesia’s national development agenda by strengthening human capital and fostering globally competitive innovation.
The partnership is already yielding tangible outcomes, with pilot projects underway to establish new postgraduate pathways for UGM students, potentially commencing as early as the January 2027 intake.

Beyond taught programs, the partnership encompasses a research agenda designed to position both institutions as national leaders in graduate research. Key initiatives include:
- PhD Partnering and Pathways: Co-supervision arrangements will build academic networks while providing UGM PhD candidates access to Monash's research infrastructure and expertise. The partnership also envisions Monash PhD training programs to build UGM's research capacity and co-hosted annual PhD hackathons to demonstrate national leadership in graduate research.
