Explore our mRNA initiatives

Building on years of expertise in nucleic acid delivery and nanomedicine design, the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated MIPS scientists' development of mRNA therapeutics using lipid-nanoparticle-based delivery systems. As a result, MIPS researchers were the architects of Australia's first mRNA COVID-19 vaccine to enter clinical trials.

Today, MIPS leads a growing number of exciting initiatives aimed at collectively advancing mRNA technologies by developing novel therapeutics, enhancing delivery systems and accelerating drug development.

Victorian mRNA Innovation Hub (VMIH)

A collaborative team of Melbourne researchers from Monash University and the University of Melbourne established The Victorian mRNA Innovation Hub to develop next-generation mRNA vaccines and therapeutics to treat a range of diseases.

mRNA Core

Utilising cutting edge specialised equipment for mRNA formulation and supported by extensive analytical infrastructure at MIPS, mRNA Core is designed to advance the next generation of mRNA and develop the mRNA technologies of the future.

Monash-Moderna Quantitative Pharmacology Accelerator (MMQPA)

A Monash-Moderna collaboration to accelerate the development of new safe and effective mRNA medicines for a broad range of diseases by harnessing quantitative pharmacology systems to make the process more efficient.

The National Centre for Biopharmaceutical Optimisation of mRNA Therapeutics (CORTx )

The new national facility focuses on a critical step in the development process for mRNA medicines - evaluating delivery and biodistribution in the body, informing the plausibility of the candidate to progress toward human studies.

Monash mRNA Workforce Training Centre

Australia’s first dedicated mRNA workforce training centre to deliver best-practice education and training programs across the mRNA vaccines and therapeutics pipeline and wider pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
