Knowledge broker educational visits
Do you want to support deprescribing in practice, but feel unsure about when and how to start?
Knowledge broker educational visits are designed to equip Australian GPs, pharmacists, nurse practitioners and nurses with practical skills, structured approaches, and communication strategies to support safe, patient-centred deprescribing in everyday practice.
Each visit is delivered by a skilled and specially trained educator, the knowledge broker. Each 1-hour visit offers:
- tailored and interactive discussion of deprescribing principles and SUPPORT-Meds resources, case-based learning, and reflection on the challenges and opportunities in your own practice
- high-quality, evidence-based and free education and resources, fully funded by the Australian Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. Developed by leading Australian subject-matter experts, experienced GPs, pharmacists and nurses, and consumers with lived experience—see About Us for more information
- continuing professional development (CPD) from peak Australian professional bodies, including
- Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP): 1 hour Reviewing Performance
- Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM): 1 hour Reviewing Performance
- Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA): 2 Group 2 credits
- Australian Primary Care Nurses Association (APNA)
- mini-audits that give you the opportunity to reflect on your deprescribing practice and earn further CPD from RACGP (Measuring Outcomes), ACCRM, PSA and APNA
- flexible delivery that fits in with your workplace schedule and location (e.g. medical practice, community pharmacy, residential care home).
Each visit includes a case study focusing on deprescribing a specific high-risk and potentially inappropriate medicine, and the available programs will change over time. Currently available programs are:
- Opioids for persistent noncancer pain
- Benzodiazepines and Z-drugs for insomnia in older adults
