Drug discovery
Drug discovery
We are a world leader in drug discovery, development and innovation with programs directed to diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, mental health, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, maternal health and others.
Our impact
Our vision is to be an international leader in drug discovery and development with impact in the treatment of major global health burdens.
Collaborators and industry partners
Drug discovery and the optimised use of medicines is complex and multidisciplinary. Collaboration is vital and our collaborators and industrial partners are a critical part of our mission.

Our drug discovery platforms
At MIPS we deploy significant research infrastructure and experience to support internal drug discovery programs. This infrastructure is arranged into a series of research platforms that are also available to external partners to help progress their projects. The platforms are part of a broader network of Monash Technology Research Platforms and can be accessed externally via a range of models of interaction from collaboration through to fee-for-service.

Our Therapeutic Program Areas (TPAs)
Our research covers a range of diseases but has a particular focus in three major therapeutic areas

Neuroscience and mental health
The neuroscience and mental health TPA encompasses multidisciplinary approaches to unmet medical needs in psychiatry, neurodegeneration, pain, and other mental health disorders.

Cardiovascular and metabolic health
The cardiovascular and metabolic health TPA works to develop cardiovascular and metabolic disease therapeutics. Its expertise runs from basic research through to animal disease models and on to translational human disease.

Global health
The global health TPA aims to improve health & achieve equity in health for all people worldwide, major activities focus on infectious diseases and maternal, child and reproductive health.
