2018 Vice-Chancellor’s Education and Research Awards
Two teams from the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) were recently honoured at the Vice-Chancellor’s Education and Research Awards.
Celebrating Monash’s leaders in both education and research, nominees’ achievements epitomise the talent and potential of the university, demonstrating innovation and excellence.
Showcasing the world-leading research undertaken by our scientists, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Research Enterprise was presented to a dedicated team of collaborators for ‘Advancing Immunotherapeutic Innovation from Promise to Product’.
The team includes Monash BDI researchers ARC Laureate Professor James Whisstock and Dr Andrew Ellisdon, along with their Hudson Institute of Medical Research colleagues, Professor Marcel Nold and Associate Professor Claudia Nold.
The team has made ground-breaking discoveries on signalling mechanisms of anti-inflammatory mediators, with immense potential benefit for millions of patients worldwide across a broad spectrum of diseases.
Associate Professor Elizabeth Davis and Dr Barb Kemp-Harper received one of the coveted Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Teaching Excellence.
These awards recognise educators (individuals or teams) renowned for the excellence of their teaching, who deeply engage students and, importantly, have also made a broad contribution to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching at Monash.
Associate Professor Davis and Dr Kemp-Harper have a strong commitment to student-centred teaching, and work together to develop learning activities that encourage students to take greater ownership of their own learning.
"We are honoured to receive the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence and are delighted that our program has enhanced student career awareness and provided our students with an opportunity to gain invaluable experience within the pharmaceutical industry," Dr Kemp-Harper said.
Congratulations to both teams on their success, and to Professor John Bertram, Professor Jane Black and Associate Professor Tim Cole, who were also nominated for Vice-Chancellor’s Education and Research Awards.
