Monash Herb Feith Indonesian Engagement Centre, Indonesia
Who We Are
The Centre is named after Herb Feith, the Monash academic whose legacy of strengthening ties between Indonesia and Australia through quality scholarship and social activism is continued through the Centre. Feith advanced our knowledge about constitutional democracy in Indonesia during the country’s early phase of independence, and also inspired graduates of Australian universities to perform volunteering services for Indonesian civil servants.
Following Feith’s life of dedication for the development of Indonesian studies in Australia, the Centre strives to further a better understanding between Australians and Indonesians. In particular, we promote the development of Indonesian language education in Australia and encourage Australians to study in or conduct research on Indonesia.
What We Do
The Herb Feith Centre promotes intellectual exchanges between Monash University and Indonesia. We do so through the monthly Monash Indonesian Seminar Series, trimonthly Dialogues, and other collaborative seminars with other departments in Monash University, Indonesia-Australia focused associations, government officials, and our partners in industry. We support doctoral students whose research focuses on Indonesia and the Centre aims to grow bilateral research excellence by acting as a hub to actively connect people, industry, and government.
