Monash and Yale collaborative grants program (for funding in 2018) now open

The Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute continues to celebrate the alliance established with Yale University through the announcement of the 2018 funding round of the Monash-Yale Collaborative Grant Program in Metabolism.

In 2016 Yale's program in Integrative Cell Signaling and Neurobiology of Metabolism and the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute's Metabolic Disease and Obesity Program signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to help tackle fundamental questions in obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolism.

The initiative was spearheaded by Professor Tony Tiganis, Head of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute’s Metabolic Disease and Obesity Program and Professor Anton Bennett, co-director of Yale's Program in Integrative Cell Signaling and Neurobiology of Metabolism (ICSNM). Both scientists share a common longstanding research interest in how a family of enzymes involved in protein dephosphorylation are involved in metabolic disease. Researchers from the two universities have engaged in informal research collaborations over many years, Bennett says “There is existing synergy and this is a way to bridge the gap on research projects.  The goal with these grants is to facilitate a collaborative environment so that researchers can gather preliminary data and later apply for larger funding opportunities through other organizations, such as the National Institutes of Health.”

Project grants of up to AUD$50,000 and travel grants of AUD$5,000 will be available to fund collaborative projects and researcher exchange.  This program is open to all researchers (including PhD students) collaborating with the Yale School of Medicine and the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute on research projects in the areas of metabolism, obesity and/or diabetes. Applicants from all programs within the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute are eligible to apply.

Applications are open now, and close on September 30, 2017.
