Morning tea puts spotlight on women in need

Share the Dignity is an Australian charity committed to providing women in need with personal hygiene products.
After hearing about disadvantaged and homeless Australian women who were unable to afford necessities such as tampons and pads, Rochelle Courtenay, founded the charity in 2015.
Since then, the organisation has collected half a million packets of pads and tampons and helped countless women through a range of initiatives.
These include Dignity Vending Machines which dispense free tampons and pads to those in need; a bi-annual #dignitydrive, in which people can donate sanitary items at registered collection points around Australia; and an annual Christmas #itsinthebag campaign, where Australians can donate a handbag they no longer use and fill it with items that would make a woman feel special.
In addition, Share the Dignity also pays for the funerals of domestic violence victims, when the families are in financial distress.
On Tuesday 8 August, Monash will host a morning tea to support this amazing charity.
The keynote speakers will be Professor JaneMaree Maher, a Professor in the Centre for Women's Studies and Gender Research, and Professor Jude McCulloch, a Professor of Criminology, from the School of Social Sciences.
The pair will speak on the topic of “Achieving everyday security for women: challenging gendered violence.”
Those wishing to attend are asked to bring a donation of women’s sanitary products which Share the Dignity will then distribute to women in financial need.
Those who are unable to attend the event but would like to donate sanitary items, can do so by sending the products, clearly labelled “Share the Dignity” to the Clayton Mail Room.
