Integrated Neurogenic Mechanisms

How do neurons communicate with other cells to control complex processes?

The nervous system is integral to many important physiological functions, including digestion, sensing your environment and responding to tissue injury or infection. To mediate these events, neurons and surrounding cells communicate with each other through secretory factors that act on specific signalling proteins.

How this occurs is poorly defined.

We study how G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and ion channels contribute to processes in health, how they change in disease and better ways to target their activity for drug discovery.

We are part of the Drug Discovery Biology theme of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
