Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health

What we do

Cardiovascular and metabolic diseases represent a tremendous and growing health and economic burden for individuals and societies worldwide. With more than 450 scientists, MIPS has a growing focus on multidisciplinary, cutting-edge cardiometabolic research to address these global challenges.

MIPS brings together expertise across medicinal chemistry, structural biology, analytical pharmacology, drug disposition and delivery, translational models of disease, and medicines use and safety. Our commitment to research translation is demonstrated by our contribution to the development of more than 30 novel drug candidates that have progressed into clinical development.

Our research capabilities span the drug discovery and development pathway, including the pharmacology of G protein-coupled receptors, with a particular focus on allostery and biased signalling; structure-based and fragment-based approaches to drug discovery; optimisation of pharmaceutical properties from hit-to-lead through to candidate selection; oral and pulmonary drug delivery, including the use of nanomedicines; cellular and animal models of cardiovascular and metabolic disease; and pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacometrics.
