Dr Amy Winship receives highly commended award at the 2017 Premier's Award for Health and Medical Research.
Congratulations to Dr Amy Winship from the Monash BDI for her highly commended award from The Premier's Award for Health and Medical Research on her ground-breaking research that has uncovered the key role a protein plays in two potentially life-threatening health conditions in women. Dr Winship talks to ABC Melbourne Radio about this great achievement and discusses her research and how she "wants to highlight women’s health because it can often be overlooked." She has also been featured in the Herald Sun and The Daily Telegraph. Her study is focused on the area of pre-eclampsia. She says “it is actually one of the most severe pregnancy disorders caused by poor development of the placenta or abnormal attachment of the placenta to the womb.” Pre-eclampsia occurs in about 4 million women world-wide which is about 5 - 10 percent of Australian pregnant women. Another area she will be focusing on is women's reproductive health with Monash BDI’s Dr Karla Hutt.
