A team of researchers, led by Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute researcher Associate Professor Roger Pocock, have discovered a gene in worms that could help break the cycle of overeating and under-exercising that can lead to obesity. The study, published in PNAS, found a gene that triggers a feeling of fullness, as well as the need to sleep after eating. A similar gene is found in people. The research sparked news stories in The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Channel 9 News, SBS, the UK's Mirror and Independent, ABC radio, and 3AW radio, among others.
