Message from the Head of School
It is an honour to welcome you to the School of Clinical Sciences (SCS) at Monash Health, the largest clinical School in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. SCS hosts several internationally renowned academic Departments: Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Nutrition Dietetics and Food, Psychiatry, and Radiology and Radiological Sciences. SCS has extensive laboratory-based research programs that integrate with clinical research activities across multiple disciplines allowing translation all the way from fundamental scientific discoveries to changes in clinical practice and health policy. SCS hosts two major University Centres of Excellence, the Centre for Inflammatory Diseases, and the Ritchie Centre for Baby Health Research (jointly with Hudson Institute). Many Department Heads and group leaders are recognised as international leaders in their disciplines. It is an exciting place to work.
There are over 200 research higher degree students in SCS and we have a strong history in supporting Bioscience research students, BMedSc(Hons) students, and clinician-scientists in honours and doctoral programs within the School. A number of our gifted students have progressed from Honours or BMedSc(Hons) through to successful PhDs and postdoctoral fellowships becoming eminent independent researchers and biomedical professionals in SCS and beyond. SCS supports clinician-scientists in their PhD studies and post-doctoral fellowships with scholarships and fellowships. SCS provides a nurturing and supportive environment that drives career success.
