Student profile - Sam Davidson

My honours research year was an intense but incredibly rewarding journey. At the start, I felt excited and nervous about diving into research, unsure of what to expect but eager to discover. The first few months were challenging, as I grappled with analysing the existing literature and narrowing down my research question. There were times when the project didn’t seem to be going in the right direction, and I faced a lot of uncertainty about my ability to pull it all together. But with the guidance of my supervisor and the support of my peers, I slowly gained confidence, learning how to effectively review the literature and then conduct my own research and analysis.
One of the major ups of the year was seeing my research begin to take shape. When I finally started gathering meaningful data and seeing connections I hadn’t noticed before, I felt an immense sense of accomplishment. The honours year also allows you to more easily balance life outside of university. My project allowed me to complete the work in my own time, giving me greater flexibility to focus on extra-curricular activities.
Ultimately, my honours year taught me more than just academic knowledge. I learned to think critically, manage my time effectively, and communicate complex ideas clearly. The process helped me hone my presentation skills and develop research skills which will no doubt aid me in the future. I would highly recommend the BMedSc (Honours) program for anyone considering it.
