Prof Amanda Thrift is Head of the Epidemiology and Prevention Division, and director of the Stroke and Ageing Research Group, School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, Department of Medicine, Monash University.

Prof Thrift has extensive experience in conducting large scale longitudinal cohort studies with a particular expertise in the epidemiology of stroke and has been involved in three major data pooling collaborations. She has published widely on the epidemiology of cerebrovascular disease and dementia with over 260 refereed research publications, peer reviewed original research papers, review articles and book chapters. Through the Global Alliance for Chronic Disease (DOI: 10.1186/s12992-017-0242-8), Prof Thrift has also established strong collaboration with national and international leaders in stroke, hypertension, dementia, and rural medicine to lead an innovative vascular disease research program in an impoverished rural community in southern India. In this Global Alliance project, Prof Thrift and her team provided exciting evidence that a simple group-based approach to educating people with hypertension about their condition was effective in reducing blood pressure, when compared to usual care.  See link.
