David Lau

Dr David Lau, MBBS, PhD, FRACP, is a highly specialised Medical Oncologist focused on gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies, with a national and international reputation for research in upper GI and colorectal cancers. After graduating from the University of Western Australia, Dr Lau trained in Melbourne and was awarded his PhD in laboratory-based research on GI cancers at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute, funded by Pancare and the AGITG.

He was also the inaugural recipient of the Merck–AGITG Clinical Research Fellowship, which allowed him to advance his research and clinical skills at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London—a globally recognised centre in oncology. Dr Lau’s research output is prolific, including widely cited publications in journals such as Cochrane Reviews, British Journal of Cancer, and Nature Medicine.

Today, Dr Lau leads and participates in landmark national and international clinical trials, and is recognised for active and ongoing contributions to professional bodies such as the European Society of Medical Oncology, ASCO, and AGITG. His clinical focus, research excellence, and leadership distinguish him as a significant figure in the field of GI oncology.
