Gwo-Yaw Ho
Dr Gwo Yaw Ho, MBChB, BSc (Hons), PhD, FRACP, is a senior medical oncologist and clinician-scientist at Monash Health, specialising in the management of breast and gynaecological malignancies. Dr Ho leads the Cancer Immunology Laboratory at Monash University, developing precision cell-based immunotherapies for challenging cancers. He completed his medical training at the University of Glasgow and specialist oncology training in Brisbane, before earning a PhD at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, investigating the MYCN oncogene pathway in high-grade serous ovarian cancer and rare tumours. He has received numerous competitive fellowships and awards, including the ANZGOG Michael Friedlander AM Early-Career Researcher Award (2025), the Monash University School of Clinical Sciences (SCS) Excellence in Research Award (2024) and the SCS Early Career Clinician-Scientist Fellowship (2022-23). Dr Ho is the founder and chair of the Monash Live-Biobanking (MoLBi) initiative, a transformative clinician-led research platform that has quickly become a national hub for translational oncology. MoLBi supports cutting-edge tumour collection, biobanking, and multi-omic analysis, facilitating the discovery and development of new immunotherapies and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
Dr Ho’s research has been published in numerous journals, including Nature, Nature Communications, Nature Biotechnology, Cancer Discovery, iSCIENCE, and Cancer Research. He is renowned for bridging bench-to-bedside translation, developing robust preclinical models, and targeting the molecular underpinnings of cancers with poor prognosis. His work is highly collaborative and cross-disciplinary, with a focus on delivering precision therapeutic strategies and tangible clinical impact for patients with complex malignancies.
