Kiarash Behrouzfar
Kiarash completed his PhD on cancer genetics at University of Western Australia in Perth, 2023. He conducted his research at the National Centre for Asbestos-Related Diseases (NCARD), under the guidance of Dr. Scott Fisher, Professor, Richard Lake and Professor Steve Mutsaers.
During his PhD studies, he leveraged a large tumour biobank from a genetically diverse mesothelioma mouse model (CC-MexTAg), enabling him to perform an in-depth transcriptomic analysis on asbestos-induced tumour samples. His research led to the development of a prognostic mesothelioma-specific gene signature that could accurately predict survival in multiple independent human mesothelioma datasets and exhibited a suggestive potential to predict response to immunotherapy. Kiarash’s scholarly contributions include the publication of three original papers and one prospective review paper in the journal of Frontier in Oncology. His main academic interests encompass bioinformatics, cancer genetics and tumour biomarkers.
