Why did you decide to study science?
I chose to study science, particularly applied data science, because it includes logical reasoning, problem-solving, and uncovering hidden patterns which perfectly fit the bill for my interests.

What made you choose Monash Uni in particular?
In addition to the reputation of Monash University, its unique course map for the Bachelor of Applied Data Science attracted my attention, particularly because something similar is currently not offered at any other university in Australia.

What's your favourite aspect of studying science?
My favourite part about studying science, especially in the context of applied data science, is the ability to extract meaningful insights from datasets, where we work on uncovering patterns, forecasting outcomes, and making informed choices through data-driven approaches.

What has been the highlight of your science degree so far?
One of the standouts in my applied data science degree is using my skills on actual projects where I have the chance to work on massive datasets and provide insights that translate into data-guided strategies and solutions for the specific problem. It shows me the impact of data science in addressing real-world issues.

What's the biggest misconception you had about studying science before you started your course?
I had the misconception that data science involved coding everything from scratch, and I was worried about that aspect. However, it turns out that, although we have to learn some basics of coding, we mainly learn built-in functions and how to navigate data libraries. By utilizing these tools, we can tackle real-world challenges and focus on the problem-solving aspects.

If you were to give some advice to someone who's thinking about studying at Monash Science, what would you say?
Make the most of practical opportunities and engage with professors and industry professionals through events that are run by different clubs and societies throughout the year. The experience gained at Monash University goes beyond the classroom and prepares you for real-world challenges.

Give us a life hack or piece of advice you live by:
I would strongly recommend that you never hesitate to ask questions - there are no stupid questions - and make the most of consultation opportunities. Whether it's clarifying concepts, seeking guidance on projects, or simply delving deeper into a topic, actively engaging with professors and mentors can greatly enhance your understanding and learning experience.

Do you have a chosen career in mind? If so, what kind of job are you currently aspiring to?
I would like to work in a financial institution, such as a bank or a company that operates within the business sector. This is why I've chosen to focus my applied data studies on business analytics.
