“Aside from the fulfilling academic experience, my favourite parts of Monash were the communities I formed”
What drew you to Monash University?
Only Monash University offered the specific double Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and Science. Its flexible curriculum allowed me to tailor my studies based on my interests and experiences. Monash's vibrant social scene, including clubs and societies, also caught my eye for great opportunities to connect with others and enrich my university experience.
How was your time studying at Monash?
Beyond the enriching academic experience, my favourite part of Monash was the sense of community I found. Initially, I connected with people through the Science Society and Monash Student Association events. In my classes, I developed a strong network in the maths community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I bonded with AFL Supercoach fans through a Monash Community Page. Later, I joined the Monash Snowsports Society, meeting wonderful people I still see regularly. Being part of the Monash Science Student Ambassador program was also a highlight of my time in university.
How did your course help with professional development?
The Faculty of Science at Monash offers an excellent industry-based learning program named "Work Integrated Learning." After applying, the university arranges interviews through its industry connections. Successful candidates complete internships that count as credit toward their degree. Through this program, I landed an internship as a data analyst at KPMG, where they offered me a graduate position.
“My placement gave me the opportunity to prove myself to the company, and a short time into my placement I was offered a graduate job”
Why would you recommend a career in science?
Science offers a lot of flexibility. A third of your Bachelor of Science program at Monash consists of electives, allowing you to study subjects within or outside of science. Take this opportunity to explore areas you're curious about, enjoy, or relevant to your career path. Plus, it's fun!
