“It's amazing to work at the forefront of a field and feel that I am helping to safeguard our country's well-being and environment for future generations”

What drew you to Monash University?

I chose Monash University for its progressive and enriching approach to education, which addresses relevant issues of our time. Monash offers a wide range of degrees and provides excellent support for students, even in digital environments, such as during the pandemic.

How was your time studying at Monash?

The campus experience at Monash is unique and vibrant. The cafes, restaurants, social events, and beautiful campus make student life remarkable.

I met like-minded and passionate students from various fields, not just science. We grew close and supported each other over our four years together. I have many fond memories with my university friends, whom I will always cherish.

How did your course help with professional development?

It provided valuable opportunities to engage with organisations in the climate change space, including the Bureau of Meteorology, Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub, Burnet Institute, and Citizens Climate Lobby. I also took fascinating subjects such as "Science through the Eyes of Australia's First Peoples."

Beyond academics, Monash University offers work opportunities that complement your education and enhance your career skills. They supported my part-time role as a tutor in the Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Leader Program, allowing me to gain valuable experience while studying.

“I truly think science is a holistic discipline that can open many doors”

Why would you recommend a career in science?

Science has opened many doors for me, including in business sustainability and policy, teaching curiosity, critical thinking, and how to apply theory to real-world challenges. After my science degree, I didn't expect to pursue a master's in social and public policy at the University of York and work in this field.

Furthermore, energy transition in the context of climate change is exciting. Working at the forefront of this field is fulfilling because I know I'm helping safeguard our country's well-being and environment for future generations.
