Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Science

Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Science double degree is the ideal stepping stone for a future-proof science career - combining practical legal skills together with scientific technical skills, creating an awareness of the complexities between science and society.

You will select up to two of 25 areas of science (e.g. one major and one minor), in addition to your compulsory law units. You will also have the option to select 7 law electives where you can further specialise in a legal area of your choosing.

You could choose a major in Environmental science to pursue a career addressing the national and international legal issues related to the global environmental crisis. With Pharmacology, you might focus on the regulation of medicines and positions, healthcare compliance and the legal aspects of pharmaceutical practices. With a major in Genetics and genomics, you could oversee the research and development of biotechnology techniques like genetic modification and cloning, and analysing significant legal concerns regarding access to genetic resources.

If you are interested in studying Psychology, this degree is not APAC accredited.

Graduate with the peace of mind that your degree is recognised by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLAB) as satisfying the academic requirements for admission to practice in Victoria. No law degree enables you to practise law immediately. You must complete further training Practical Legal Training (PLT) or supervised legal training by the Supreme Court of Victoria and obtain a practising certificate.

Pathways

Applicants who have partially completed an undergraduate degree must have completed the equivalent of one semester (4 units)(Monash applicants only) or one year full-time study (8 units)(external applicants only) or more of a recognised university degree and no more than the equivalent of two years of full time study (96 point); and achieved a distinction average or better across all the university units, irrespective of discipline.

A distinction average (70%) is the minimum entry criteria to be eligible for admission, and the average will then be the basis for ranking candidates as part of a competitive selection process. All applicants must satisfy the VCE subject prerequisites or equivalent.
