Why did you decide to study science?
Throughout high school, I always had a passion for the environment and wanted to make an impact in this area. We learnt about the degrading state of ecosystems in science and geography classes and I knew that in order to help create positive change, I had to pursue science beyond high school.

What made you choose Monash Uni in particular?,
I had already been accepted to a different university back home and I was about 3 weeks away from starting the semester. Then, I received an acceptance letter from Monash in my email inbox. I went to bed that night thinking about what my life would be like if I moved to Melbourne and went to Monash University and I knew that I had to make the move and go out of my comfort zone in order to get to where I needed to be in life. The next morning I accepted the offer!

What has been the highlight of your science degree so far?
Studying environmental science has given me the opportunity to venture out and see Victoria through the various field trips that I’ve been able to go on. My favourite one would have to be when I was able to go on an overnight trip to Rawson and see the snow! It was lots of fun and definitely the highlight of my degree so far.

What's the biggest misconception you had about studying science before you started your course?
I would only be able to focus on a single major. However, with the flexibility of a Monash Science degree, I have been able to do subjects from a wide range of disciplines in order to explore interests beyond my major. I was surprised by the amount of technical skills that I have been able to learn that will be helpful for the workplace, as I thought studying at university would be mainly theoretical.

If you were to give some advice to someone who's thinking about studying at Monash Science, what would you say?
Test the waters and find your passion! You can explore different interests through the many majors that Monash offers and be able to easily switch between them in order to set yourself up for a career that you enjoy.

Organise your priorities with regard to your values. It is never worth compromising your mental and physical wellbeing or your relationships with your family in the name of a good grade or staying up all night studying for an exam. It is important to regularly evaluate your priorities.
