Small Worlds, Big Impact: A Journey to the Micronosphere
Chemists often study reactions at scales far too small to see with the naked eye. Yet these microscopic processes determine how batteries store energy, why materials corrode, how catalysts work, and even how future technologies might help tackle global challenges. In this talk, Dr Cameron Bentley will take you on a journey into the "micronosphere"—the hidden world where chemistry happens—to show how understanding tiny structures and reactions can have a huge impact on the world around us.

Mathematics in the modern world of AI and science
Mathematics is everywhere in our daily lives, even when we do not realise it. It helps scientists understand the world around us, from predicting the weather and studying the Sun to developing new medicines and exploring space. Mathematics is also at the heart of artificial intelligence, helping computers learn from data, recognise patterns, and make decisions. In this talk, we will explore how mathematics is used behind the scenes in modern science and AI, and how it helps solve real-world problems. Through simple examples and stories from scientific research, we will see why mathematics remains one of the most powerful tools for innovation and discovery in today’s world.
