Professor Craig White appointed Vice-Provost
Professor Craig White appointed as Vice-Provost with Professor Anne Peters to step in as Interim Head of the School of Biological Sciences.
Professor Craig White has been appointed Vice-Provost of Monash University, with Professor Anne Peters to step into the role of Interim Head of the School of Biological Sciences.
Professor White will take up the role of Vice-Provost from Monday 12 October, bringing more than a decade of research and academic leadership at Monash to the University-wide position.
Professor White joined Monash in 2015 and has since held several senior leadership roles within the Faculty of Science. He served as Director of Research from 2016 to 2018 and Associate Dean (Research) from 2018 to 2020 before becoming Head of the School of Biological Sciences.
As Vice-Provost, Professor White will serve as standing deputy to Provost and Senior Vice-President Professor Tim Dunne, including periods as Acting Provost. He will represent the Office of the Provost on key committees, working groups and appointment panels, while providing strategic leadership to strengthen academic performance across Monash’s faculties and international locations.
Professor White is an internationally recognised evolutionary physiologist and life-history theoretician whose research explores how organisms acquire and use energy and how these processes influence patterns of evolution. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and attracted $6.8 million in research funding through the Australian Research Council and National Health and Medical Research Council.
He will undertake the Vice-Provost role at 0.6 fraction while retaining his substantive appointment in Biological Sciences.
The appointment also brings a leadership transition for the School, with current Deputy Head of School Professor Anne Peters becoming Interim Head of Biological Sciences from 12 October.
Professor Peters leads the Behavioural and Evolutionary Ecology of Birds Research Group, with research spanning animal behaviour, physiology and evolutionary ecology. Her work includes a long-term study of purple-crowned fairy-wrens in the Kimberley and research on superb fairy-wrens closer to home.
