Paediatrics - Clinical Pharmacology and Trials

The primary concern of paediatric clinical pharmacology and trials is to increase the safety and effectiveness of medicines used in children.

Our research group is a collaboration between Monash Children’s Hospital and Monash University Department of Paediatrics, with strong links with the Monash University Centre for Medicine Use & Safety. Collaborators at Monash University/Monash Health include the Newborn Research group, the Paediatric Neurology and Neurodevelopment group and the Paediatric Infection & Immunisation group.

The Monash Children’s Clinical Trial Centre (MCCTC) leads and/or facilitates industry and investigator initiate clinical studies of innovative new therapies to improve outcomes for children with unmet medical needs, and to advance health outcomes. The MCCTC collaborates with a broad range of paediatric sub speciality departments and provides support in clinical trial design and in dose and pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic considerations.

Current active research, supervision and collaborative work includes dose optimisation of immunosuppressant drugs (mycophenolic acid, tacrolimus) in transplantation; population PKPD analysis and therapeutic studies in premature neonates; and education in clinical research and trial design.
