Allison Mo
Dr Allison Mo is a clinical and laboratory haematologist with an interest in transfusion, anaemia, haemostasis and thrombosis. She is a fellow with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). Dr Mo is an early career clinician researcher who completed her PhD with the Transfusion Research Unit at Monash University, where she also currently works as a research fellow.
Dr Mo’s PhD aimed to improve transfusion practices in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes. Her research included optimising red cell transfusion to improve patient quality of life and physical function, and optimising the use of platelet transfusions and other supportive measures to prevent bleeding. Dr Mo has presented her research at national and international conferences, and received research awards including the International Society of Blood Transfusion Harold Gunson Fellowship Award and the National Blood Authority (NBA) Patient Blood Management awards.
At Monash Health, Dr Mo currently chairs the Monash Health Patient Blood Management subcommittee, where she leads hospital initiatives to improve anaemia management and transfusion practice.
She is also involved in research and educational activities with the Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion, the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group (ALLG) supportive care working party.
