Amelia McCartney
Dr Amelia McCartney, BSc, BA (Hons), MBBS, FRACP, is a breast medical oncologist at Monash Health with specialised expertise in breast cancer research and clinical translational studies. Equipped with a multidisciplinary educational foundation, she holds science and arts degrees from the Australian National University and graduated in medicine from the University of Sydney.
Her vocational training encompassed leading cancer centres across Victoria, culminating in a competitive four-year fellowship in Prato, Italy, under the mentorship of Dr Angelo Di Leo—a pre-eminent breast cancer researcher. Dr McCartney’s research focuses on biomarker discovery and clinical translation, improving prognostication, understanding mechanisms of treatment resistance, and refining de-escalation strategies for breast cancer therapies.
Dr McCartney is an active member of international collaborative trial committees with Breast Cancer Study Group (IBCSG) and the Breast International Group (BIG). Nationally, she is a member of the Breast Cancer Trials Group (BCT), serves on its Scientific Advisory Committee, and chairs its Systemic Therapies Subgroup. Her research has been presented at internationally recognised meetings and extensively published in high-impact journals.
