Cameron Bastow
Dr Cameron Bastow is a Research Fellow and leads the Host-Pathogen Imaging Group, investigating host responses to bacterial sepsis in an effort to improve the identification and translation of putative therapeutics. His group is located within the Stroke and Imaging Inflammation laboratory run by Professor Connie Wong at the Centre for Inflammatory Disease.
Dr Bastow completed his PhD in 2021 within the Chemokine Biology Laboratory at the University of Adelaide (South Australia) under the supervision of Professor Shaun McColl and Dr Iain Comerford, where he identified novel roles of typical/atypical chemokine receptors in immune cell trafficking. With this strong foundation in immunology, Dr Bastow now leads research at Monash University using new in vivo models of bacterial sepsis to identify mechanisms underlying multi-organ failure, metabolic dysfunction and immune paralysis. He has secured ~$92,000 in competitive funding since joining Monash University mid-2022 to establish sepsis models, comparative metabolomics analyses and intravital imaging techniques. Dr Bastow's broad interests in immune cell function have yielded publications in journals including PNAS, Nature Communications and the Journal of Experimental Medicine.
