Garun Hamilton

Clinical Professor Garun Hamilton is a Respiratory and Sleep Disorders physician at Monash Health and with the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, Monash University. He is Director of Sleep Research at Monash Health, where he has built Monash into one of Australia’s most productive sleep research centres in collaboration with the physiology team at the Turner Institute at Monash University. He leads the Respiratory Failure and Non-Invasive Ventilation service at Monash Health, and holds an appointment with the Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS), running the Monash Health satellite service for the VRSS. His research interests encompass:

  1. the utility of sleep apnoea phenotypes to direct personalised sleep apnoea treatment
  2. the cardiovascular and metabolic consequences of sleep apnoea;
  3. epidemiology of respiratory and sleep disorders (he is a chief investigator on the Tasmanian Longitudinal Health (TAHS) study
  4. respiratory control mechanisms
  5. Sleep and cognitive decline
  6. Non-invasive ventilation for respiratory failure
  7. Clinical trials in sleep medicine
  8. Obstructive lung disease

He contributes significantly to the profession and is currently the President-elect of the Australasian Sleep Association.
