Biography

Prof Giles is an infectious diseases physician who specialises in infections in pregnancy and maternal immunisation. Her clinical research focus is on blood borne viruses in pregnancy such as HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. She also leads a number of projects on maternal immunisation.

Monash teaching commitment

Prof Giles teaches the 4th year medical students as part of their Women's Health program.

Clinical activities

Prof Giles runs three antenatal infectious diseases clinics across Melbourne including at Monash Health, the Royal Women's Hospital and the Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital. She is the Director of the Infections in Pregnancy Service at Monash Health and advisor to the World Health Organisation on maternal immunisation.

Research interests

Prof Giles is a physician researcher whose key interest is in improving the health outcomes for pregnant women and their babies through evidence based clinical management. Her team collaborates nationally and internationally on a number of maternal immunisation projects.
