Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Prof Suresh Sundram heads the Translational Molecular Psychiatry and the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Mental Health research, and is part of the Clinical Psychedelic Lab research team.

Translational Molecular Psychiatry

The group's research aim is to ultimately develop disease modifying novel treatments for psychotic disorders, in particular, schizophrenia using a broad translational approach.

Asylum Seeker and Refugee Mental Health research

Various Asylum Seeker and Refugee Mental Health research studies are looking at the mental health needs of refugees and asylum seekers, including the impact of immigration detention on child asylum seekers.  Prof Suresh Sundram and Dr Debbie Hocking have collaborated in the area of forced migrant mental health for 10 years. Between them, they have investigated the social determinants of mental health, and the prevalence and types of mental disorders in refugees and asylum seekers.

Clinical Psychedelic  Lab

Australia's first psychedelic laboratory is pioneering a rigorous program of research and training in psychedelic therapies. Led by Dr Paul Liknaitzky, the lab is focused on investigating novel applications for psychedelic therapies, translating evidence into best clinical practice, exploring and mitigating under-examined risks, delivering next-generation therapist training, and improving access and affordability.
