The Faculty of Science’s Sustainable Development Education (SDE) team is preparing to welcome the very first cohort of students into the Master of Behaviour and Systemic Change. The new course will deliver a unique combination of systems and behaviour change curricula, making it the only course of its kind currently available in the Southern Hemisphere.

The degree brings together change-oriented theories from behavioural psychology and economics, social and political sciences and interdisciplinary sustainability studies. The inaugural intake includes professionals from a wide range of backgrounds who share a common interest in designing and leading meaningful change.

Professor Annette Bos, Associate Dean of Sustainability and Society and head of the SDE team, said the strong interest in the program reflects a growing appetite for future‑focused skills.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming our first cohort into the Master of Behaviour and Systemic Change. This program brings together cross‑faculty expertise in behaviour and systems change, filling a critical gap in preparing professionals to tackle the complex global challenges of our time.”

Course Director Dr Filia Garivaldis said she is looking forward to seeing the students dive into the material.

“Our inaugural cohort is incredibly motivated. Despite coming from different disciplines, they share a common understanding that creating change is hard. They’re ready to explore how behavioural insights and systems approaches can reshape how organisations tackle big problems.”

The Master of Behaviour and Systemic Change strengthens the Faculty’s growing leadership in providing interdisciplinary sustainability education and opens new opportunities for collaboration across teams and units.
