FAQ

You can apply if you:
- Are enrolled as an undergraduate student at an Australian campus (part-time or full-time study load) or have recently completed undergraduate study at Monash and are currently enrolled in postgraduate study at an Australian campus.
- Have completed at least a semester of study by March 2027.
- Are able to commit to supporting up to 20 commencing students through personal interactions (with a co-mentor).
- Are able to commit at least 24 hours of volunteering throughout the program (programs run for one semester).
- Have, or can obtain, a volunteer Working with Children Check.
- Access Monash Mentoring supports secondary school students from under-represented backgrounds to explore and pursue university pathways.
- Peer Mentoring supports first-year Monash students as they transition into university life.
Time commitments vary by role:
- Mentors generally contribute 1-3 hours per week focused on supporting new students during the semester, and for up to 2 weeks before Orientation Week. All mentors should be available during Orientation Week.
- Student Leadership roles may have additional responsibilities such as training, planning, and team support.
Details are provided in each application form.
All student leaders receive comprehensive training, ongoing support, and access to leadership development opportunities throughout the year.
Training will be held in person, with options to attend in November or February.

The Peer Mentoring program is evolving to better support students, and the Coordinator role will look different in future. We are finalising the details of student leadership positions for 2027 and will share those as soon as they are available.
We are finalising our student leadership structure for 2027. Please complete an application to be a Peer Mentor, and we’ll reach out to you with specific details and next steps as those leadership pathways are released.
While we are retiring the Senior Mentor title as part of our program realignment, we are designing exciting new leadership pathways for experienced mentors who want to take on extra responsibility. If you're looking to step up in 2027, please submit your application to be a Peer Mentor. We will share the full breakdown of these new opportunities with all applicants as soon as they are launched.
We’d love to keep you as part of our community! We know schedules get busy, so we are building flexible options for experienced mentors to contribute. Please fill out the application and we’ll be in touch with the different options for you to be involved.
We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as well as students from rural or remote areas, or low-SES backgrounds to apply. Preference will be given to applicants whose lived experiences may align with our mentees.
You can apply if you:
- Will be enrolled as a Monash University student in Australia during the program.
- Have achieved at least a 50 per cent average in your Monash studies, if you’re a current student.
- Completed Year 12 in Australia.
- Can commit to mentoring up to five students and participating in Access Monash Mentoring events.
- Have, or can obtain, a volunteer Working with Children Check.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview. Successful applicants will then complete compulsory training in February 2027 before they begin mentoring in March 2027.
Access Monash supports students from regional, low socio-economic, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to build their confidence, explore their options and navigate the path to higher education. Read more about the program here.
