Travelling to campus during peak periods

As Monash University continues to grow more vibrant each year, parking demand across our Australian campuses is higher than ever – especially during the following peak periods:

2026 semester commencements (the first five weeks):
- Semester one peak: Monday 2 March to Friday 3 April
- Semester two peak: Monday 27 July to Friday 28 August
2026 graduation periods:
- May graduations: Tuesday 28 April to Thursday 21 May
- September graduations: Monday 5 October to Thursday 23 October
- December graduations: Monday 7 December to Tuesday 15 December.

To make your visit easier during busy periods, we offer a range of parking and travel options for staff and students.

We strongly encourage you to consider sustainable transport options when travelling to Monash, particularly during peak periods.

In 2025, Monash secured a new overflow parking facility at 264 Ferntree Gully Road, Notting Hill – a five-minute drive from the Clayton campus.
This car park, located next to the Notting Hill Hotel, can be used by staff and students during semester in 2026 – Mondays to Thursdays – with shuttle bus transfers to and from campus.
When can you park at 264 Ferntree Gully Road
Staff and students can park for free from Mondays to Thursdays during the below periods:
- Semester periods :
  - Semester one: Monday 2 March to Thursday 2 April, and Monday 13 April to Thursday 28 May
  - Semester two peak (the first five weeks): Monday 27 July to Thursday 27 August
- Graduation periods:
  - May graduations: Tuesday 28 April to Thursday 21 May
  - September graduations: Monday 5 October to Thursday 22 October
  - December graduations:Overflow parking does not operate in December, as sufficient on-campus parking is available.
This overflow facility offers a free, reliable and consistent parking option for Monash staff and students during busy times.
Tip: If you plan to arrive on campus after 11am during peak periods, we recommend parking at this location to save time searching for a parking spot.
Where to park
The free parking spaces are located on level 3 (rooftop level). Stairs are accessible from this level to reach the shuttle bus stop. There is no lift access available at this location.
Shuttle bus transfers
A shuttle bus will run between Clayton campus and OMNICO Business Centre to ensure easy access to and from campus.
- Operating days: Monday to Thursday
- Frequency: Every 20 minutes
- Operating hours: 9.05am to 6.15pm
Note: Shuttle frequency may be adjusted based on demand.
Shuttle bus pick up and drop-off locations
- OMNICO Business Centre: 270 Ferntree Gully Road, Notting Hill (near the overflow car park, see map above)
  - The shuttle bus stop is located in the OMNICO Business Centre parking area, at 270 Ferntree Gully Road.
  - Follow signage for parking and shuttle bus locations.
- Clayton campus: Outside New Horizons, 20 Research Way.
Shuttle bus schedule
To help manage morning peak congestion at Clayton campus during semester commencements and for Graduation periods:
- Temporary traffic diversions will be in place at the Normanby Road and Howleys Road roundabout from 8am to 11am, Mondays to Thursdays
- Traffic controllers will be on-site to help you find a parking space.
- We encourage carpooling with people you know and share your trip and parking fees.
- Blue permit parking is available in the N1 multi-level car park at 10 Research Way. Parking usage data indicates that Blue permit parking is generally available until 10am, even on the busiest days.
- When Blue and Red permit areas fill, standard‑rate metered bays across campus provide additional parking capacity.
- Yellow permits: For staff having to travel between campuses for meetings, your faculty/department can arrange a Yellow permit – Yellow bays generally have good availability at all campuses – enabling you to park easily when travelling between sites
- Keeping your car park while off-campus: Staff can use the University’s pool vehicles or the free intercampus shuttle bus service to avoid having to move your car.

To accommodate increased demand for shuttle buses at the start of semesters, additional services will operate on the Clayton to Caulfield route between 9.10am and 6.10pm.
Outside these hours, if the shuttle buses are full, passengers are encouraged to use the 601 and 900 buses.
All Monash campuses can be accessed by a range of trains, trams and buses. Explore your options for getting to campus by public transport.
- Staff can use the Monash Commuter Club discount for myki cards.
- Undergraduate domestic students can apply for concession mykis.
- Postgraduate domestic students can use the Monash Commuter Club discount for their myki cards.
Please note: Public transport is also affected by Melbourne Metro Tunnel changes, so check your route before you travel.
We have a supportive cycling community and bike parking hoops at all of our campuses, making cycling a great option for getting to campus. Melbourne's growing network of bike paths makes cycling to campus easier and safer each year. We encourage you to give it a try!
