Wonthaggi SIPs

“My SIP project was a repeat point prevalence survey and a retrospective audit on hospital prescriptions of antibiotics. Auditing inappropriate prescribing has also shown me the substantial amount of ways prescriptions can be wrong. This entire project has also taught me skills in how to communicate in an interprofessional manner with doctors and nurses on the ward, pharmacists who completed this project with me, and administrative staff from medical records.”

Elena Wu, Wonthaggi 2021

"SIPs supervision is fun, fulfilling and adds to the quality activities of our hospital, but more importantly you can make a difference to the wellbeing and self-esteem of the student. All 3 projects I supervised were audits that demonstrated gaps in common healthcare processes like: antimicrobial prescribing for pneumonia, analgesic medications for postoperative joint surgery and documentation and efficacy of colonoscopy, all leading to a change in hospital policy with improvement in quality and safety. These will all make a difference to the well-being of our patients. Monash medical students in action making a difference!"
