Scholarships

Knowing that the cost of undertaking rural placements can be a barrier for some students, there are a wide range of scholarships available to support you in your rural health training. Below is a range of scholarships that are particularly relevant for students in rural health settings.

Student support

Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) Scholarships
Supporting secondary school and university students with grants and bursaries to facilitate access to university entrance exams and clinical placements, this scholarship is for students living in rural and regional Australia studying an undergraduate bachelor’s degree.

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Uni Scholarship for rural and regional students
This scholarship provides support for up to 2 years for students living in rural and regional Australia from their first year of university study.

Give them Wings scholarship
Scholarships from the Royal Flying Doctor Service for university students from regional, rural and remote Victoria who are studying nursing or allied health.

Placement support

Australian Collaborative Education Network (ACEN) Student Scholarships
Scholarship to provide financial support for students undertaking a Work integrated learning (WIL) placement in Australia as part of their university studies.

Allied Health and Psychology Professional Placement Scholarship
This provides up to $11,000 for undergraduate and postgraduate allied health students to undertake a placement in a mental health setting. 5% of scholarships will be prioritised for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants

Australian Rotary Rural Medical Scholarships

Rural medical scholarship program worth $5000 to create incentive for students to undertake at least one year of work placement in rural Australian communities.

Australian Rotary Rural Nursing Scholarships
Rural nursing scholarship programs worth $12,500 to create incentives for students to undertake their final year of clinical placement in rural Australian communities.

Masters of Psychology – Rural Placement Program
The program aims to grow the rural workforce by supporting students to undertake rural placements and building the capacity of host sites and supervisors to support students.

Monash Achieving Potential Placement Grant
A grant of up to $1000 for students experiencing financial disadvantage and who are required to undertake an unpaid practical or work placement as part of their degree.

Going Rural Health Student Support Scheme

This scheme supports students with the associated costs of accommodation and travel when completing a clinical placement in a rural setting across Hume, Ovens, Murray, Goulburn, Ballarat and Grampians regions.

Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) grants

RWAV has a wide variety of grants available for medical, nursing, and allied health students to undertake placements in regional or rural Victoria.

Monash Achieving Potential Support Scholarship
Scholarships for commencing undergraduate students who are from low income backgrounds

Monash Kickstart Scholarship
For all commencing undergraduate students who are from low income backgrounds

Monash Relocation Scholarship
Scholarships for commencing undergraduate students who are from a low socio economic background and from a regional or remote area of Australia.

Monash Resident Scholarship
scholarships for students who are from a low income background OR a regional or remote area OR Indigenous Australians OR seeking asylum in Australia, to live at Monash Residential Services (MRS).

Monash Rural Health Financial Assistance Fund
Provides financial assistance of up to $750 to Monash medicine, nursing and allied health students while on placement within Gippsland and north-west Victoria.

Monash student loans
If you need help with study-related expenses, or you’re experiencing financial difficulties, you may be eligible for an interest-free student loan.

Monash emergency grants
If you're in financial hardship and need immediate support you may be eligible for the Emergency Grant payment of up to $500.

Indigenous support

Australian Rotary Health Indigenous health scholarships
Yearly scholarships up to $5000 awarded to Indigenous tertiary students as a way to support the barriers of tertiary study. Jointly funded by a Rotary Club or District and the State or Federal Government.

Bendigo Bank Indigenous Scholarship program
This scholarship provides support for up to 2 years for students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander from their first year of university study.

Kummargi Yulendj (Knowledge is rising) scholarship program
Monash scholarships to support Indigenous and economically disadvantaged students, including those from regional or remote areas, to undertake higher education.

Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme
The Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme (PHMSS) is designed to encourage and assist undergraduate students in health-related disciplines to complete their studies and join the health workforce. The scheme provides scholarships for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people studying an entry-level health course.
