Student mental health and wellbeing support

Monash Rural Health places high importance on the mental health and wellbeing of our students. We know there are challenges experienced by some students on rural placement, such as separation from family and friend networks, illness and financial stress, which can impact their health and wellbeing.

Monash Rural Health Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026-2030

The Monash Rural Health Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026-2030 is designed to enhance the supportive academic, psychosocial and physical environments for students and staff across our regional and rural footprint. This provides a framework to support students’ mental health and well-being during their rural placement experiences.

The four major actions underlying this strategy to promote student health are:

  • Fostering engaging curricula and learning experiences
  • Strengthening awareness and actions, developing students’ mental health knowledge and self-regulatory skills
  • Cultivating supportive social, physical and digital environments
  • Ensuring access to effective services.
