Support for students doing rural placements

Monash Rural Health (the school) has teaching sites and accommodation spread from Mildura through to Bairnsdale. We host medical, nursing and allied health students who are sampling work and life in regional and rural Victoria, from a placement lasting a couple of weeks to a full academic year.

Our school is based in two regions in north-west and south-east Victoria.

Generally, students live in fully-furnished Monash accommodation close to their clinical academic site or community placement. Rent is subsidised by the University and includes utilities (capped) and high-speed internet.

Nursing and allied health placements

If you're a nursing or allied health student doing a clinical placement within our footprint, we can offer you short-term accommodation and access to our teaching facilities in Mildura, Bendigo, Warragul, Moe, Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale and Wonthaggi. Medical placements

All medical students have the opportunity to spend time in a rural location during the course of their degree by undertaking placements across rural and regional Victoria. We deliver the Monash MD course and coordinate clinical placements across the medical degree. Our Rural Health Education Program Office which is based at Monash’s Clayton Campus oversees all aspects of these placements.

Medical clinical regional and rural placements are available across north-west and south-east Victoria.  The school has teaching sites in: Mildura, Bendigo, Warragul, Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale and Leongatha. Each clinical training site is attached to a regional hospital and partners with a range of community-based health services. Each clinical training site has a simulated learning environment and on-site library access.

South-east and north-west opportunities

Places at our regional and rural training sites are open to students from the direct entry and graduate entry streams of the medical program.

• Our south-east region includes the Warragul, Traralgon, Sale, Bairnsdale and Leongatha teaching sites.
• Our north-west region includes the Mildura and Bendigo training sites.
