Mildura
Mildura is a city of approximately 32,000 people. It is situated in north-west Victoria, approximately 550 kilometres from Melbourne and 450 kilometres from Adelaide.
The Monash Rural Health site at Mildura is equipped with a clinical simulation centre, conference rooms, student lounge areas and kitchen, resource area and student accommodation. There is also a medical library, providing an additional place to study and learn. Conveniently located next door to Mildura Base Public Hospital and across the road from Mildura Health Private Hospital students are able to experience hands-on training in a well-supported environment, with expert clinical staff and lecturers in a range of specialties.
With student accommodation on site, students develop a strong collegiate relationship through living and working together. Being located close to the hospital, students are able to fully immerse in the hospital environment and become valued members of clinical teams. Students also enjoy the relaxed environment of living in Mildura, with fantastic local attractions, shopping, dining and nightlife to enjoy.
Our Mildura Community Advisory Committee, made up of representatives from across the community, ensures our teaching and research meets local healthcare needs.
Mildura Base Public Hospital
Monash Rural Health Mildura is located adjacent to Mildura Base Public Hospital, allowing easy access to clinical placements for students. The hospital has over 170 beds, with over 23,000 admissions per annum and 29,000 presentations to the Emergency Department each year. Mildura Base Public Hospital provides a number of clinical services including:
- Medicine and surgery
- Emergency
- Intensive care
- Mental health
- Women’s health and maternity
- Paediatrics
Mildura Base Public Hospital is a training site for interns and registrars and runs a comprehensive program for these doctors. Medical students are encouraged to participate in these sessions which include weekly teaching in radiology, ECG interpretation, intern issues and discipline-specific meetings.

Accommodation
Subsidised accommodation in Mildura is available for Years 3B, 4C and 5D medical students and nursing and allied health students. All accommodation is a short distance to Monash Rural Health Mildura and Mildura Base Public Hospital. Wireless internet and all utilities are included in the weekly accommodation rental fee.

The Monash North West Victoria Regional Training Hub works to improve career opportunities for regional medical students and junior doctors and support specialist post graduate pathways and staff retention for healthcare providers in North West Victoria. They offer career counselling and support, mentoring, research development opportunities as well as networking to help junior doctors and medical students in the early stages of their career.

Mildura is located directly on the Murray River and offers warm weather all year round. Getting around town is easy with various cafes and restaurants, all within walking distance in the city centre. In addition to the large rural town centre, the outdoor and riverside activities in the Mildura region are endless. If you enjoy bushwalking, kayaking, fishing, swimming and beachside picnics then Mildura could be for you.
Mildura is a large regional centre and there is a lot you can get involved in. If you’re into sport, there are thriving local competitions in football, basketball, netball, cricket, tennis and soccer, as well as a state-of-the-art indoor swimming centre, golf courses and water sports on the Murray River. There is also a thriving cultural scene, with multiple performing groups including the local Mildura Theatre Company and Musical Society Mildura. There are annual arts and music festivals, and a range of exhibitions and performances at the Mildura Arts Centre.

Mildura is located on the Murray River in north-west Victoria on the border of New South Wales 550 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, 440 kilometres north-east of Adelaide, 1080 kilometres west of Sydney.
Getting to Mildura is easy: board a plane, bus, train, or drive yourself.
