Monash Rural Health Bendigo is embedded within Bendigo's thriving health precinct alongside Bendigo Health, Bendigo Primary Care Centre and La Trobe University's School of Rural Health.
Bendigo is a city of approximately 120,000 people and is Victoria's fourth largest city, located around 150 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.
The Monash Rural Health site at Bendigo is equipped with a clinical simulation centre, tutorial rooms, student lounge areas and kitchen, large auditorium and student accommodation. There is also a medical library, providing an additional place to study and learn. Conveniently located next door to Bendigo Health public hospital, students are able to experience hands-on training in a well-supported environment, with expert clinical staff and lecturers in a range of specialties.
With student accommodation close by, students develop a strong collegiate relationship through living and working together. Being located close to the hospital, students are able to fully immerse in the hospital environment and become valued members of clinical teams. Students also enjoy the relaxed environment of living in Bendigo, with fantastic local attractions, shopping, dining and nightlife to enjoy.
Our Community Advisory Committee, made up of representatives from across the community, ensures our teaching and research meets local healthcare needs.
Bendigo Health
Monash Rural Health is located adjacent to Bendigo Health public hospital, allowing easy access to clinical placements for students. A 724-bed service, Bendigo Health treats more than 49,000 inpatients, deals with more than 52,000 emergency attendances, delivers around 1,400 babies and takes more than 110,000 medical images each year.
These services are complemented by an integrated Cancer Centre, which administers around 9000 chemotherapy treatments each year, an 80-bed Psychiatry Unit and 11 operating theatres where almost 15,000 surgical procedures are performed annually.

Accommodation
Subsidised accommodation in Bendigo is available for Years 3B, 4C and 5D medical students and nursing and allied health students. All accomodation is a short distance to Monash Rural Health Bendigo and Bendigo Health Public Hospital. Wireless internet and all utilities are included in the weekly accommodation fee.

The Monash North West Victoria Regional Training Hub works to improve career opportunities for regional medical students and junior doctors and support specialist post graduate pathways and staff retention for healthcare providers in North West Victoria. They offer career counselling and support, mentoring, research development opportunities as well as networking to help junior doctors and medical students in the early stages of their career.

Bendigo has a rich history built largely on the gold rush that commenced in 1851, building the city into a major centre with amazing architecture and diverse cultural influences. Today, Bendigo is a medium sized city with strong cultural organisations such as the Bendigo Art Gallery, Bendigo Theatre Company and the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra. There is a wide range of sporting clubs (including hockey, netball and soccer and even fencing). Bendigo’s size means that it can support more eclectic interests, including Lion dancing, archery and yachting. The city has regular festivals and activities, including the annual Bendigo Easter Festival. There is a wide range of food and cuisine in the region, which has lead to the city being recognised by UNESCO as a City of Gastronomy.
The Ulumburra Theatre plays host to major visiting artists and events. There is also a large weekly market at Bendigo showgrounds market and the Red Energy arena plays host to major sporting and concert events as well as NBL team the Bendigo Braves. Whatever takes your fancy, there is sure to be something for you to experience in Bendigo.
In addition to the wide range of things to do and see in Bendigo, Bendigo Health, where your hospital rotations will take place, underwent a state of the art renovation in 2017. Monash Rural Health Bendigo is located right next to Bendigo Health, making it very convenient for students to study, practise clinical skills and study together between clinical placement rotations.

Bendigo is located around 150 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.
Getting to Bendigo is easy: board a train, bus, or drive yourself. If you are coming from interstate, there is also a commercial airport.
