Marianne Tare
Welcome to Churchill

Welcome to Monash Rural Health – Churchill. Students in the first year of the graduate-entry medicine program enjoy a modern and innovative approach to teaching and learning. Close partnerships with rural hospitals support authentic clinical learning experiences for students at the beginning of their medicine journey.

Non-clinical community placements with organisations across Gippsland enable students to gain first-hand experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams and their clients, and develop an understanding of social, cultural and economic impacts of heath in local communities. This “hands-on“, authentic approach to learning provides an experience like no other.

We look forward to welcoming you to Monash Rural Health – Churchill, situated in the beautiful foothills of the Strzeleki Ranges, Gippsland.

Studying in Churchill

"My first exposure to placement has been such an experience. When I go to shadow Dr Isaam Muller, he was so welcoming of my presence and questions and put in extra effort to explain his philosophy and approach to patient-centric healthcare."

Explore Churchill and the Latrobe Valley

Churchill is located within the Latrobe Valley region of Gippsland. Nestled in the foothills of the picturesque Strzelecki Ranges, Churchill is a close distance to the larger regional town of Morwell and the largest city in the Latrobe Valley, Traralgon.  Traralgon is the entertainment hub of Gippsland and has a thriving food, pub and club scene.

Churchill is the perfect base for exploring the Gippsland region. Within easy driving distance are popular tourist destinations, including spectacular beaches, ski resorts, national parks, gourmet deli trails, rail trails, craft villages, country weekend markets, award-winning cafes and pubs, and great walking tracks.

The campus is adjacent to an extensive park, Mathison Park, with a walking track, lake, all-ages fitness station and BBQ facilities. The adjacent Koori Garden contains plants that the local Gunaikurnai clan have used for thousands of years. The Latrobe Leisure Centre at Churchill is conveniently located next to the campus and offers the community everything for health and fitness, aquatics and indoor sports.

THREE TIPS FROM A YEAR A STUDENT
  1. Get involved in a local sporting club
  2. Get outdoors and do some hiking (Tarra Bulga and Wilson’s Prom are both good spots)
  3. Make sure you’re preparing for the coming week by watching the relevant lectures, but make sure you take a break (whatever that looks like for you)
