Simulated Patients View

We are regularly seeking simulated patients to play the role of patients in medical teaching and examinations. This is generally a voluntary role, and you will be required to present the same role to a student for examination and diagnosis to ensure exam consistency.
Simulated (or sim) patients represent a range of ages and are drawn from local communities close to our teaching sites. Each site aims to have a registry of sim patients of all ages who can be called on to fill roles.

Becoming a sim patient

What is involved in becoming a sim patient?

Attending a general Simulated Patient Training workshop - 2 hours
Having your details on a confidential Simulated Patient registry
Participating in mid-year or end-of-year medical student examinations - 3 hours
Participating in student teaching sessions requiring simulated patients (variable times)
You can choose to have as much or as little involvement as you like!

Multiple Mini Interviewers View

Would you like to be a part of selecting the next generation of health professionals?

Volunteer as an interviewer for the Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI), used as part of the selection process for entry into the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. As an interviewer, you won't need any clinical knowledge. We are looking for people with life experience who understand communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Anatomy Demonstrators View

We are looking for anatomy demonstrators to complement our teaching team. Improve your anatomy knowledge, surgical skills and gain valuable teaching experience that can help you stand out when applying for surgical education and training programs. Our demonstrators play an important role in improving our students' experience and outcomes, and you'll be helping train the next generation of doctors, biomedical scientists and allied health professionals. Teaching takes place during typical working hours, and you can choose to teach in one semester or across both.

We have a robust training program that supports your growth and teaching skills. In addition to teaching, you will gain access to research opportunities across a range of areas within our Centre.

Monash Rural Health delivers its first year of instruction in the graduate entry program (termed Year A) at the Federation University campus in Churchill, Victoria. With an expanded and accelerated curriculum, Year A integrates key elements of the pre-clinical years of medical school instruction. Anatomy instruction in this year is coordinated by the Centre for Human Anatomy Education within the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology.

Community Advisory Committees View

By listening to our local communities, Monash Rural Health ensures that our education and research programs meet local healthcare needs in the future. The main way we do this is through our three community advisory committees in Mildura, Gippsland and Bendigo.

Committee members have diverse affiliations, professional and cultural backgrounds, and range widely in age. They include representatives of regional health and community service providers, local government, education providers as well as people outside the health and education sector. What they all have in common is an interest in local health issues (including health workforce shortages) as well as education and research needs.
